Based on Jack El-Hai’s 2013 book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist, Nuremberg is a historical drama film written and directed by James Vanderbilt. Slated for a release on November 7, 2025, the film follows Douglas Kelley, who is tasked with determining whether Hermann Göring is fit to stand trial at the Nuremberg trials.

The main cast is led by Rami Malek and Russell Crowe, who play Douglas Kelley and Hermann Göring, respectively. Leo Woodall, John Slattery, Mark O’Brien, Colin Hanks, Wrenn Schmidt, Lydia Peckham, Richard E. Grant, and Michael Shannon play supporting parts in the film, alongside other actors.

Rami Malek and Russell Crowe lead James Vanderbilt’s Nuremberg

The Bohemian Rhapsody fame Rami Malek is portraying the character of psychiatrist Douglas Kelley in the upcoming historical drama film.

Malek established himself as an emerging talent with his two most notable performances, which include his Emmy-winning role as Elliot Alderson in the TV series Mr. Robot (2015-2019) and the Oscar-winning role of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody (2018).

The American actor played the villain Lyutsifer Safin in the James Bond film No Time to Die (2021) and appeared as physicist David Hill in Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster Oppenheimer (2023). His most recent appearance was in James Hawes’ action thriller film, The Amateur (2025).

Veteran actor Russell Crowe is playing the German Nazi high command, Hermann Göring. Crowe portrays the menacing figure engaged in a psychological battle of wits with the prison psychiatrist, Kelley, in Nuremberg.

Born in New Zealand, Crowe is an actor and a filmmaker with a career spanning over 40 years, delivering intense and versatile performances. He achieved international breakthrough with L.A. Confidential (1997) and earned critical acclaim for The Insider (1999). His role as Maximus in Gladiator (2000) won him an Academy Award.

More recently, he starred in the thriller Unhinged and the horror film The Pope’s Exorcist (2023) and in the 2024 film Kraven the Hunter. Crowe has multiple upcoming projects scheduled to be released in 2026, which include The Beast in Me, Bear Country, The Weight and Billion Dollar Spy.
